The Full Story: My Founder's Letter
Dear Friends,
The Bluebird Kindness Awards began with a single, simple hope: to help children heal from the emotional toll of the Covid-19 pandemic. Grief, isolation, and uncertainty left so many young hearts quietly struggling — and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something more personal, more joyful, was needed.
At first, I envisioned motivational speakers and dynamic programming — but the response from educators helped clarify something important. Children don’t need to be preached to. They need to be seen. And often, the best mirror is each other.
That realization led me to the Bluebird Kindness Award — a $500 annual honor given to a student who embodies gratitude, compassion, and generosity, as recognized by their peers. It’s a small gesture, yes, but one rooted in something larger: a belief that character is the quiet engine of culture.
This award isn’t just recognition — it’s early intervention. A proactive spark that fosters emotional wellness, strengthens connections, and elevates kindness as a shared value. And from that seed, a larger vision grows: scholarships that lift students not just in spirit, but in opportunity.
My hope is that a Bluebird Kindness Award becomes more than an award — that it becomes a movement. One that celebrates the everyday kindness that holds schools together, and one that offers a pathway forward for students who live those values in quiet, remarkable ways.
With gratitude for your support, your belief, and your shared hope for a brighter world,
Rod Miller
